DAVID VANE, Broker/Owner is Leadership Academy Grad, Humanitarian Award Honoree

Columbia, Md., May 11, 2011

Broker David Vane, co-owner of WEICHERT, REALTORS® - New Colony in Columbia, and a member of the Howard County Association of REALTORS® (HCAR), was among 17 recent graduates from the Maryland Association of REALTORS^® (MAR) Leadership Academy to be honored at ceremonies held in Annapolis.

            During the ceremony, Vane was singled out to receive the David E. Maclin Humanitarian Award, as the graduate who best demonstrated Maclin’s character and ideals through faith, and integrity, and a deep commitment to community and real estate endeavors.  This award, in honor of David Maclin, who passed away in 2007, was created by colleagues from the class of 2002 and was presented by J. Russell Boyce, Chairman of the Leadership Academy.

The MAR Leadership Academy was formed by realtors who understand the important role they play in their community and the need to enhance the leadership skills, knowledge, and competencies of fellow realtors.  WEICHERT, REALTORS® - New Colony is a strong advocate and recognizes the importance of this program to HCAR’S future. 

The Academy offers an intensive curriculum designed around the development of leadership skills, communications, strategic planning, legislative and government affairs and community involvement.   Classes are conducted over seven months and stress the value of professional and personal commitment to professional, charitable and civic endeavors.

“Today we honor you as future leaders in communities and within our REALTOR^® organizations,” 2011 President Cathy Werner said. “You will find it one of the most personally and professionally rewarding endeavors.  We are very proud that we’ve had 203 graduates since our first class in 2001,” she added.

            William J. Armstrong, III, 2011 Treasurer of the National Association of REALTORS^® (NAR) and Dale Stinton, CEO of NAR were guest speakers at the event.  “Leadership is being prepared and the strength of our leaders is why associations flourish,” Armstrong emphasized. “You will succeed by doing what you do well and keeping focused on your vision.” Stinton added.

Coldwell Banker Residential, Keller Williams Realty MD/DC Region and the Prince George’s Association of REALTORS® sponsored the 2010-11 MAR Leadership Academy and were recognized for their support.
